VEF Riga has named Carlos Frade the team’s head coach, it was announced Wednesday. Club parted ways with previous head coach Nikolajs Mazurs by mutual consent. Otherwise, coaching staff remains the same.
VEF Riga chairman Maris Martinsons: "Nikolajs Mazurs has worked in VEF Riga since the re-foundation of the club in May 2007. He grew together with VEF and now has become a competitive coach, attracing interest from abroad clubs. We believe that Nikolajs will have a great career, we wish him all the best and we will be proud of him.
We have chosen Carlos Frede as the new head coach of VEF Riga, who we think will bring new things and something from the Western basketball school. This coach has extensive experience working with young players, who later has achieved success in their careers."

It is also strategic for us as we strengthen even more our position in Latvia (we currently represent Kristaps Porzingis and Janis Timma among others) and the Baltic States."
It is expected that Carlos Frade will arrive to Riga in early July where he will be presented as the new head coach of VEF Riga.
